Working with a network of vetted local specialists, I build a custom day-by-day plan suited to you. Nothing books until you say yes.

No fee upfront — the planning cost is folded into your trip price, and you only pay when you book. From there, just show up and travel.
Group Trips
Who typically joins Ursus Travel group trips?
Our groups are primarily gay men and bears from all over the world. We look for travelers who value authenticity, community, and culture over partying and tourist traps.
What is included in the group trip price?
The pricing of my group trips reflects my coordination and host fee. Everything else is separate but allows me to work with you to book something within your budget. Wanna room alone in a cheaper place? I can do that. I am not like other travel companies that charge single supplements. If we do excursions, museums, dinners, or any other activities, we all pay separately including me your host.
What if the group trips sell out?
I keep groups small (usually 8-12 people) to ensure a high-quality experience. If a trip is full, you can join the waitlist — spots do occasionally open up, and waitlist members get first dibs on the next launch.

Itinerary Building
Do I pay anything upfront?
No. We start with a discovery call to see if we're a fit. I build your vision into a concrete plan; my planning time is folded into the total trip price, which you only pay when you approve and book.
How is this different than booking it myself?
Booking apps can't tell you if a hotel is truly welcoming or if a guide is actually good. I use personal relationships, my network of on the ground local contacts, and 17 years of experience living abroad to open doors you won't find on a search engine.
Can I still change things after I get my plan?
Of course. We refine the itinerary together until it's exactly what you want. It's your escape—I'm just the architect.

Is this for men only?
My group trips are specifically tailored for gay men, bears, and our community. For individual itinerary building, I welcome all travelers, but my focus remains on safe and welcoming spaces for queer travelers.

My name is Derrick Fields. I have LIVED, not just visited, LIVED all over the world — leaving the USA in 2008 and living in Mexico, Honduras, South Korea, China, Thailand, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Australia, Malaysia, and for the last 12 years, the heart of Madrid. Spain is where my soul landed. I currently split my time between Madrid and Atlanta, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I started Ursus Travel because travel transformed my life, and I want to share that with others — specifically with our community of gay men and bears. Every itinerary is personal. I design each journey myself, focused on creating safe, welcoming spaces where you can truly belong. Not as a tourist. As someone who belongs there.
